Becker Shoes stands as a long-running Canadian shoe retailer, proudly family-owned and operated. In 1933, Clarence Becker opened the first Becker Shoes store in Hanover, Ontario. Taking the time to get to know each customer and their family personally helped make his business a success and a cornerstone of the community.

Clarence‘s son, Earl, continued the tradition of personal service and selection, expanding the business with a second store in Collingwood, Ontario. The growth continued throughout the nineties and into the new millennium when grandson, Doug Becker, took over the family business. Now the business has expanded to sixteen locations and continues to be operated by the Becker family, as Doug‘s son, Bradley, has stepped into the business.

The shoe business has come a long way in the last 90 years, but Becker Shoes still honours its origins by providing customer service and personalized shoe fitting.

NSRA’s 2025 ‘Retailer of the Year’ Award

In 2025, Becker Shoes celebrated a great milestone of being named the National Shoe Retailers’ Association’s first Canadian ‘Retailer of the Year’.

In acceptance of the award, Doug shared, “Donna and I are very proud and honoured to have been selected by the NSRA for this award. Being involved in the shoe business for 46 years and part of the NSRA for much of that time is what helped us earn this award. Our team is also a big part of it with their support and dedication. Donna and I thank the NSRA and all the members for this recognition and look forward to continuing our involvement in the NSRA along with our NextGen, Brad, and his partner, Felicity. Thank you."
